Celebrate Mother’s Day with Sail Portland Maine

I’ve had some pretty tough jobs in my life, and some people might consider sailing to be all “feet up, and wind in the hair“ with little to no work needed. I’m here to say that I can guarantee that those people were not sailors.

You see, the beauty of sailing is the process. The process of putting in loads of physical and mental labor, and then to finally experience the sweet reward of being underway, full sail, with the perfect breeze at sunset. This is what I live for!

I have a couple of friends (who are also sailors) that have recently become new mothers. They’ve shared with me the beauty in the process of motherhood, and how similar it can be related to sailing. There is much tending, attention to small details, multi-tasking, and mental and physical work required in parenting that oftentimes goes unnoticed by others. Raising these small humans and seeing them sail through life is a reward like no other.

Despite the fact that we ought to show adoration to you mother each and every day, Mother’s Day is that one day when we demonstrate the most love for you, and make you feel like a Queen.” – Sheila Sage
